Description
Off Axis Guider large for full frame cameras with larger prism for better guiding
The ZWO OAG-L Off Axis Guider large has a large prism size of 12 x12 mm, much larger than the ZWO M48 OAG. The larger bright prism provides a wider field of view when guiding. It is easy to use and suitable for users interested in long focal length photography. To get the most benefit from it, we recommend pairing it with guide cameras with a larger sensor, such as the ASI174mm mini.
Functions:
- Lightweight and exquisite, 17.5mm thickness.
- Prism size: 12 x 12mm.
- The effective light transmitting aperture is 11.7 x 8.3 mm.
- Can be used to connect the main camera and the guide camera at the same time. No guide scope needed.
- Packed with an M48 sensor tilt plate (5 mm).
User Tips:
- For guiding, the OAG-L can only work with ASI (Mini) cameras, such as the ASI174MM Mini, ASI290MM Mini and ASI120MM Mini. But other cameras such as the Lodestar also work well.
- The ASI174MM Mini is the best choice, we do not recommend the ASI120MM Mini for use in combination with an OAG solution (the sensor is too small).
- Due to the large prism size, we do not recommend using the OAG-L with telescopes whose clear aperture is smaller than M48.
- However, it is recommended to use the OAG-L with the 2 inch EFW or 7x36mm EFW, and with APS-C cameras (e.g. the ASI2600) or full-frame cameras (e.g. the ASI6200/2400). The large bright prism supports full-frame cameras without loss of light.
- The main differences between OAG-L and M48 OAG are the size of the prism and the screw thread. The OAG-L has removed the internal thread so that you can use the screws directly to connect it to other equipment. Such as the larger filter wheels from ZWO and/or the M54 filter slider from ZWO.
- If your telescope side thread is M48, you don’t need to remove the M48 sensor tilt adapter, which comes with OAG-L. On the other hand, if M48 is not your connection, then you will need to remove this plate and use a different sensor tilt adapter for the corresponding thread of your telescope. You can also find these at Ganymedes.
Keep in mind that:
When adding the OAG-L to your optical train, make sure that the prism is not blocking the camera sensor. You can use the guide screw to adjust the focus length of the guide camera. Make sure that the distance (back focus) from the prism to the main camera and to the guide camera are the same. To guarantee the result, it is better to do this during the day, as the adjustment can be very difficult at night.
