Description
Perfect first camera to start shooting monochrome.
The ZWO ASI533MM Pro Mono cooled astronomy camera is equipped with Sony’s CMOS IMX533 1 inch format sensor with a square aspect ratio. With a resolution of 9.0 megapixels, this camera has 3.76 µm pixels for a high signal-to-noise ratio for shooting deep-sky celestial objects. It is also ideal for fast, high-resolution lunar, solar and planetary photography. For example, a small telescope with a focal length of 400mm gives a field of view with this camera of 1.6 degrees square. A telescope with a focal length of 1500 mm length gives a field of 0.43 degrees square.
State-of-the-art Sony IMX533 sensor with backlight
ZWO designed the ASI533MM-Pro camera around Sony’s IMX533 9-megapixel CMOS sensor with 16 mm diagonal (11.31 mm x 11.31 mm) with a 3008 x 3008 pixel array. Each pixel measures 3.76 microns on each edge. The sensor’s square format is ideal for framing many symmetrical deep sky objects, such as globular and open star clusters, planetary nebulae and many emission nebulae. But many smaller galaxies can also be done perfectly with this camera.
Sony’s backlit CMOS image sensor improves sensitivity and noise reduction. The key factors for improving image quality while radically realigning the fundamental pixel structure from front lighting to back lighting. It has kept the advantages of CMOS image sensors such as low power consumption and fast operation.
With a conventional front lighting structure, the metal wiring and transistors on the surface of the silicon substrate hinder. Which form the light-sensitive area of the sensor (photodiode), collecting photons through the on-chip lens. A backlit structure increases the amount of light entering each pixel due to the lack of obstacles. Such as metal wiring and transistors moved to the back of the silicon substrate. The pixels have a capacity of 50000e to help you capture sharp images of bright stars without saturation. This illuminated sensor has a high estimated QE of 91%. Read noise is as low as 1.0e.
Zero Amp Glow with the ZWO ASI533MM Pro Mono camera cooled
Traditional CMOS sensors produce a weak infrared light source during use that is often seen in the corner of uncalibrated images. Since the ASI 533 MM-Pro uses a zero amp glow circuit, you don’t have to worry about the amp glow. Not even when using high gain, long exposure imaging.
DDR3 memory buffer and fast data transfer
The camera’s ‘Pro’ designation comes from the internal 256MB DDR3 buffer for fast and stable data transfer and reduced amplifier flare. The USB3.0 port provides a fast 20 fps recording rate at full resolution with 14-bit ADC.
TEC sensor cooling and anti-dew heater
The two-stage TEC cooling system brings the sensor temperature to 35 degrees below the ambient temperature. This is to keep the sensor noise as low as possible, even on warm nights. The heat generated by the TEC is used to prevent dew from forming on the camera’s protective glass. The camera’s TEC cooler requires 12V-3A, provided with an external power supply (not included). If the camera is powered from a USB2.0 host, the external 12V power supply is also required.
Excellent performance with low noise
The ASI533MM-Pro camera has a dynamic range of 8 to almost 14 stops, depending on the gain settings. At a gain of 100 you get 13 stops of dynamic range with a read noise of only 1.5 e. At higher gains, read noise can be as low as 1.0e, making this an ideal camera for electronically assisted astronomy (EAA).
USB3.0 data ports and USB2.0 hub
The camera’s electronics, except for the cooler, are powered entirely from the USB3.0 port. This TEC cooler requires 12V-3A with an external power supply (not included). The ASI533MM-Pro also includes a USB2.0 hub for powering accessories such as a guide camera or focus motor ( EAF).
