Introducing the ZWO ASI294MM Pro cooled (mono) 4144×2822
The ZWO ASI294MM Pro cooled is a back-illuminated, 4/3” format, 14-bit ADC camera with 4.63um pixels. It is the monochrome version of ASI294MC Pro, one of ZWO’s best-selling cameras. The camera has an impressive capacity of 66 ke-full well and a 4144*2822 high resolution.
The camera not only has a very high QE value with a peak of about 90%, but also has an ultra-low readout noise of 1.2e. If you are looking for a small format mono camera for astrophotography, the ASI294 MM Pro is the ideal choice.
Specifications
Backlit sensor
The back-illuminated CMOS sensor improves sensitivity and noise reduction. The key factors for improving image quality. This while radically realigning the fundamental pixel structure from front lighting to back lighting. It has kept the advantages of CMOS image sensors such as low power consumption and fast operation.
With a conventional pre-exposure structure, the metal wiring and transistors on the surface of the silicon substrate that form the light-sensitive region of the sensor (photodiode) obstruct. Collect photons through the lens on the chip. A backlit structure minimizes degradation in optical angle response sensitivity. While also the amount of light entering each pixel increases due to the lack of obstacles. Such as metal wiring and transistors moved to the back of the silicon substrate.
Camera performance

ASI 294MM Pro’s full source capability of 66387e is near the top of all ASI DSO cameras. It provides a very high dynamic range of up to 13 stops that significantly reduces the chance of overexposure and helps to achieve richer color gradations.
When the gain value is 120, the magic HCG high gain mode is turned on. As a result, the readout noise is largely reduced (as low as 1.2e) and the dynamic range remains basically unchanged.
QE value
As ZWO’s latest BSI monochrome camera (back-illuminated type), the ASI294MM Pro delivers very high QE performance. Not only higher than the color version, but even higher than the ASI1600MM Pro. It is estimated that the peak QE value is about 90%.
Cooling
The ZWO ASI294MM Pro uses two-stage TEC cooling which can lower the CMOS sensor temperature to 35c~40c below the ambient temperature. Which can significantly reduce the generation of dark current and sensor noise, even at longer exposures.
The unique dark power suppression technology can further reduce dark power noise. When the camera is cooled to -20℃, the power noise can be as low as 0.0022e/s/pix. Which is completely negligible!
Power supply
Please note that the camera must be connected to an external 12v power supply to implement the cooling function. We recommend using a 12V @ 3A DC adapter (5.5*2.1mm, center pole positive) or lithium battery with 11-15V to power the camera.
USB3.0 & 256M DDR3 Memory
The ASI294MM Pro is equipped with a USB 3.0 transmission interface and a built-in 256MB (2Gb) DDR3 cache to ensure stable and secure data transfer. At long exposures, it effectively avoids dropping frames and greatly reduces the glow effect caused by slow reading speed.
