2022 model RedCat 51 II with improved focus tension control.

The William Optics RedCat II 51 F4.9 Petzval telescope has been modified for 2022 with a small improvement to the focusing device. Mainly in the part where you can control the smoothness of focusing. This renewed “focus tension control” provides a focusing device that can be adjusted even better. As is known, the RedCat 51 is a derivative of a conventional photography lens. Only without the technical gadgets such as automatic focusing. The RedCat will not look out of place in the collection of the nature photographer and it has become an indispensable part of the collection of astrophotography photographers.

Field rotator of the William Optics RedCat II 51 F4.9 Petzval telescope

As you can see in the photo above, the field rotator is equipped with an engraved 360 degree arc. The protractor allows you to determine and adjust the “framing” of your camera very precisely. A tilter is screwed onto the rotator, with this tilter you can correct any deviations from your sensor. If the sensor is not 100% flat in its housing, it is possible to remedy this with the tilter. When the tilter is unscrewed, you can place a 2 inch filter.

Helical focusing device

Focusing is done in exactly the same way as with a conventional photography lens, by turning the black knurled ring. This results in fast but accurate focusing. With the red tension ring, which is incorporated in the dew shield, you can adjust how smoothly you want the Helical focusing device to turn. The dew cap again has a cover with a Bahtinov mask incorporated.
