Description of the Optolong L-eXtreme 2 inch dual band filter for your deep sky camera
The L-eXtreme is a two 7nm band pass filter that can be used with one-shot deep sky color cameras such as DSLRs (digital SLR) and color CCD or CMOS cameras. The filter is also suitable for fast systems. The convenience of this filter allows amateurs to image a rich emission nebula even in bright, slightly light polluting areas. Optolong believes the L-eXtreme filter design would be a better choice for high-speed systems at a competitive price.
The filter isolates the emission lines of the H-Alpha and Oxygen III nebula, maximizing contrast and signal-to-noise ratio between nebulae. For people who live in very light polluted areas, the L-eXtreme will be a good filter.
Unlike the Optolong L-eNhance filter (which is a tri-band and passes Hb, Ha and OIII), the L-eXtreme filter is a double band that passes through Ha and OIII emission lines.
Combine the Deep Sky filter with the right camera
Of course, not only the filter is important: you also want the right camera to portray Deep Sky objects as beautifully as possible. For this you need a camera that captures as much light as possible and that prevents background noise during long exposures.
