Description
William Optics RedCat 51 APO 250mm, f/4.9 Petzval optical design.
From the beginning of this telescope, William kept in mind that it was a portable, small telescope with the best possible optics and optical design, especially fast and useful for astrophotography at the lowest possible price. With this RedCat and its 51mm aperture, Petzval optical design and f/4.9 focal ratio, it looks like William has succeeded in his mission.
Optical design
As mentioned, the lens has a 51 mm aperture with a focal length of 250 mm in a Petzval design, the glass is made of FPL-53 and FPL-51. The optical design consists of 4 elements processed in 3 groups. This makes the telescope suitable for full frame with a flat field.
Focus
The Helical focuser ensures a very fine focus of the desired object. The focus tube is graduated, ideal for photographic purposes. The present field rotator ensures that you can make accurate mosaic shots. It also has a scale. See photo in the gallery.
The RedCat has a camera with M48 thread. Nowadays almost most cameras can be connected to this. The mounting on a mount or a photo tripod is a piece of cake. Vixen style dovetail is included in the scope of delivery of the telescope, this dovetail can also be used with connection of the ARCA-SWISS type. The William Optics RedCat can also be connected effortlessly to ordinary photo tripods.
REDCAT has been renewed from October 2019, small improvements that make the REDCAT even better. In the photo below you can see what the improvements are. Unfortunately, this has led to a price increase of the REDCAT.
There is now also a larger version of the RedCat 51 and that is the RedCat 71.
The delivery of the William Optics RedCat 51 APO 250mm includes:
- RedCat 51 telescope
- Bag for transport/protection
- Dovetail for mounting on a photo tripod or astronomical mount
- M48 thread for camera mounting
- Bahtinov mask processed in the cover cap
